Explore the city’s rich history, from its founding as a German settlement in 1907 to its rise as Rwanda’s capital upon independence in 1962. Visit historic sites including old Kigali, vibrant craft centers, and the poignant Genocide Memorial Site to deepen your understanding of Rwanda’s past, resilience, and inspiring recovery.
After lunch in Kigali, enjoy a scenic 2.5-hour drive to Ruhengeri, arriving in the early evening at Volcanoes National Park. Known as the gateway to gorilla trekking in Parc National des Volcans, Ruhengeri offers breathtaking views of the surrounding volcanoes and a warm, welcoming community. Situated near the Uganda border, the town showcases a unique cultural blend, with both English and French widely spoken.
Virunga Lodge
Start your day with an early breakfast at the lodge, followed by a 6:20 AM transfer to Volcanoes National Park Headquarters to begin your gorilla trekking adventure.
At 7:00 AM, register and receive a briefing from park staff, who will assign trekking groups based on your fitness level and the gorillas’ locations from the previous evening.
